Professor’s question:

Many universities are debating their policies on laptop use in lectures. Some argue that technology enhances learning by allowing students to take notes faster and access online resources. Others claim that laptops are a major source of distraction, harming not only the user but also students around them. In your opinion, do the educational benefits of allowing laptops in classrooms outweigh the potential for distraction? Why?

Student response 1:

I believe laptops should be allowed because they are an essential learning tool. For instance, I can type my notes much faster than I can write them, which helps me keep up with the professor. Also, having a laptop makes it easy to look up unfamiliar terms during the lecture.

Student response 2:

I disagree. While laptops can be useful, they are often a huge distraction. Many students end up browsing social media or shopping online instead of paying attention. As a result, not only does their own learning suffer, but their screen can also distract the people sitting behind them.
