Professor’s question:

Many cities are encouraging urban agriculture, such as community gardens and rooftop farms, to promote local food sources. Supporters claim these projects strengthen communities, provide access to fresh produce, and create valuable green spaces. Conversely, critics argue they are inefficient and cannot produce enough food to make a significant difference in a city's food supply. What is your assessment of the overall value of urban agriculture? Why?

Student response 1:

I believe urban agriculture projects are extremely valuable for city residents. Even though they may not produce large quantities of food, their main benefit is social. For example, community gardens bring neighbors together and teach valuable skills about where food comes from. Therefore, they improve the quality of urban life.

Student response 2:

While I appreciate the idea, I think the impact of urban agriculture is often overestimated. The space and resources required to produce even a small amount of food in a city are substantial. As a result, these projects are more of a hobby than a serious solution to food security issues in large populations.
