Professor’s question:

For years, schools have debated replacing traditional printed textbooks with digital versions on tablets. Digital textbooks are lighter, can be updated instantly, and often include interactive features. However, some research suggests that students retain information better from physical books and are less likely to be distracted. Which format do you believe is more effective for learning in the classroom? Why?

Student response 1:

I think digital textbooks are the better choice for modern education. They are far more convenient since one tablet can hold every book a student needs, which is much better for their backs. Moreover, digital formats are more environmentally friendly and can be updated easily, so students always have the most current information.

Student response 2:

I believe physical textbooks are superior for serious learning. Reading on a screen can cause digital eye strain, and the presence of notifications and other apps creates a constant source of distraction. For this reason, many students find it easier to concentrate and remember information when they are using a printed book.
