Professor’s question:

This week, we are examining different learning methodologies. Group projects are a common feature in many courses, intended to teach collaboration and teamwork. However, some students find them frustrating due to issues like unequal contribution from members. Do you think group projects are an effective and fair way to evaluate student learning? Why or why not?

Student response 1:

Yes, I believe group projects are very effective. They teach essential skills for the modern workplace, such as communication and compromise. Even though it can be challenging, learning to work with different personalities is a valuable experience that individual assignments cannot provide.

Student response 2:

I don't think group projects are a fair method of evaluation. Often, one or two students do most of the work, but everyone gets the same grade. This is unfair to the hardworking students and doesn't accurately reflect what each individual has learned. Consequently, they can cause a lot of stress.
