Professor’s question:

Today we're discussing the impact of social media on interpersonal relationships. On one hand, these platforms allow us to connect with people from all over the world instantly. On the other hand, some sociologists argue that these online interactions are superficial and may weaken our real-life connections. In your opinion, does social media ultimately bring people closer together or drive them further apart? Why?

Student response 1:

I think social media actually weakens our relationships. People spend more time looking at screens than talking to the person next to them. Furthermore, these connections often feel less meaningful because they lack the depth of face-to-face conversation and shared experiences.

Student response 2:

I believe social media helps bring people closer. It allows friends and family who live far apart to stay in touch easily. For instance, I can see daily updates from my cousins in another country, which would be impossible without these platforms. It creates a sense of constant connection.
