Professor’s question:
This week, we're examining the role of institutions in promoting healthy habits. Consider university cafeterias. Some argue that universities have a responsibility to provide primarily healthy food options to encourage good eating habits. Others believe cafeterias should offer a wide variety of foods, including less healthy options, to give students more choice. Which approach do you think is better for a university to take? Why?
Student response 1:
I think universities should prioritize healthy food. Students are often busy and stressed, so they might choose unhealthy food if it's easily available. By offering mainly nutritious options, the university can positively influence their long-term health habits. Therefore, it's a responsible choice for the institution.
Student response 2:
I disagree because university students are adults who should make their own choices. Forcing only healthy options can feel restrictive and might cause students to eat off-campus instead. Furthermore, offering variety caters to different tastes and budgets, which is more realistic for a diverse student body.
