Professor’s question:

In today's class, we're discussing the role of technology in the modern classroom. Many schools are now providing tablets or laptops to every student, arguing that these tools provide access to vast amounts of information and prepare students for a digital future. However, some educators worry that this reliance on technology can be distracting and may weaken traditional learning skills like handwriting and in-depth reading. Which side of this debate do you agree with? Why?

Student response 1:

I believe providing every student with a device is a positive step. It makes learning more engaging because students can watch videos or use interactive apps. Besides, this access prepares them for the modern workplace, where digital literacy is essential for nearly every job.

Student response 2:

I think we should be more cautious. While technology is useful, it can also be a major source of distraction with games and social media just a click away. Furthermore, studies have shown that students often remember information better when they write it down by hand, a skill that is being lost.
