Professor’s question:

As cities continue to grow, planners must make difficult decisions about how to use limited space. One ongoing debate is the importance of creating and maintaining urban green spaces, such as parks and public gardens. Some argue these areas are essential for residents' physical and mental health. Others contend that the land could be better used for more urgent needs, like affordable housing or transportation infrastructure. Which should be the priority?

I believe protecting and creating green spaces is crucial since they significantly improve the quality of life in a city. Parks offer a place for exercise, relaxation, and community gatherings, which is vital for mental well-being. Moreover, they provide environmental benefits, like improving air quality and supporting local wildlife.

Student response 2:

Even though parks are nice, I think providing affordable housing should be the top priority. Many cities face a housing crisis, and people need a safe place to live before they can worry about having a park nearby. Because a home is a fundamental need, it should take precedence over recreational areas.
