In our discussion about higher education, let's consider the concept of a 'core curriculum.' This is a set of required courses in subjects like history, science, and the arts that all students must take, regardless of their major. Proponents argue this creates well-rounded graduates. Opponents claim it forces students into irrelevant classes. In your view, should universities require a core curriculum for all students? Why or why not?

I definitely support a core curriculum. It ensures students gain a broad knowledge base, which is crucial for critical thinking. For instance, an engineering student might discover a passion for philosophy, and this can help them think more ethically about their work in the future.

I disagree because a core curriculum can be a financial and time burden. Many students are focused on completing their major as quickly as possible to start their careers. Therefore, forcing them to take unrelated courses seems inefficient and could add unnecessary stress and tuition costs.
