Write for an Academic Discussion Test #069
Write for an Academic Discussion
A professor has posted a question about a topic and students have responded with their thoughts and ideas. Make a contribution to the discussion.
You will have 10 minutes to write.
Your professor is teaching a class on social studies.
In your response, you should do the following.
- • Express and support your opinion.
- • Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.
Professor’s question:
We've been discussing how technology shapes our social interactions. Social media platforms allow us to connect with hundreds, even thousands, of people globally. Some argue these platforms strengthen our relationships by making it easier to stay in touch. Others believe they lead to more superficial connections and weaken the quality of our real-life friendships. What is your view on the primary impact of social media on friendships? Why?
Student response 1:
I think social media helps friendships. It allows me to stay connected with friends who live far away, which would be difficult otherwise. For example, I can see their life updates and share important moments instantly. As a result, we feel closer despite the distance.
Student response 2:
I believe social media often harms real friendships. People focus more on presenting a perfect image online than on genuine interaction. Because of this, communication becomes less meaningful. For instance, I've noticed friends spending time on their phones when we're together instead of talking.
