- • Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.
Professor’s question:
In our discussion on public health, let's consider the role of employers. Some companies have started offering 'wellness incentives'—rewards for employees who meet certain health goals, like exercising regularly. Supporters say this motivates a healthier workforce. Critics, however, argue that it is an invasion of privacy and unfairly penalizes those with health challenges. Do you think companies should offer these incentives? Why or why not?
Student response 1:
I think wellness incentives are a great idea because they encourage people to adopt healthier habits. A financial reward can be a powerful motivator for someone who needs an extra push to start. For instance, getting a discount on health insurance could be the reason someone finally begins exercising regularly.
Student response 2:
I believe these programs are problematic, even though the intention is good. An employee's health is a private matter, and linking it to work can feel intrusive. Furthermore, it can be unfair to people with chronic illnesses who cannot meet certain health goals, creating a stressful workplace.
