Write for an Academic Discussion Test #064
Write for an Academic Discussion
A professor has posted a question about a topic and students have responded with their thoughts and ideas. Make a contribution to the discussion.
You will have 10 minutes to write.
Your professor is teaching a class on organizational psychology.
In your response, you should do the following.
- • Express and support your opinion.
- • Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.
Professor’s question:
Recently, the concept of a four-day work week, where employees work four days instead of five but receive the same pay, has gained attention. Advocates argue it boosts employee morale, improves mental health, and can even increase productivity. However, critics worry that it's not feasible for all industries and could lead to a decline in customer service. Do you think more companies should adopt a four-day work week? Why?
Student response 1:
Yes, I think it's a fantastic idea. A four-day work week gives employees more time for personal life, which reduces burnout. As a result, they are likely to be more focused and productive during their working hours. It's a clear investment in employee well-being.
Student response 2:
I'm not convinced it's a universal solution. While it might work for office jobs, it's impractical for sectors like healthcare or retail that require constant coverage. Instead of a rigid four-day week, companies should perhaps focus on offering more flexible scheduling options to their employees.
