You will have 10 minutes to write.
Your professor is teaching a class on urban planning.
In your response, you should do the following.
- • Express and support your opinion.
- • Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.
Professor’s question:
As cities grow, managing traffic becomes a major challenge. One approach is to invest heavily in public transportation like buses and trains to encourage people to leave their cars at home. Another strategy is to expand roads and highways to accommodate more vehicles. Which of these two approaches do you think is a better long-term solution for growing cities, and why?
Student response 1:
Investing in public transportation is definitely the better long-term strategy. It's more sustainable because it reduces overall traffic congestion and pollution. Furthermore, it provides an affordable and accessible option for all citizens, not just those who can afford to own and maintain a personal car.
Student response 2:
While public transit is important, I believe focusing on road infrastructure is more practical. Many people need the flexibility of a car for their jobs or family responsibilities, so simply building more bus lines won't solve the problem. Better and wider roads can immediately ease traffic flow.
