Professor’s question:

Today we're discussing the impact of social media on friendships. On one hand, these platforms allow us to stay connected with people far away and find communities with shared interests. On the other hand, some argue that these online interactions are superficial and can weaken our real-life relationships. Which of these effects do you think is more significant in modern society? Why?

Student response 1:

I think social media has a positive effect because it helps maintain relationships that might otherwise fade. I have friends who moved to other countries, and we still feel close. In addition, it's a great way to meet people who share niche hobbies you can't find locally.

Student response 2:

I feel the negative impact is more significant. While it's nice to stay in touch, I see people prioritizing online interactions over the person right in front of them. As a result, many real-life connections become less deep and meaningful because they lack genuine, face-to-face communication.
