Professor's question: Many cities are encouraging the construction of more high-density housing, such as apartment buildings, to address housing shortages and promote more sustainable urban living. However, critics are concerned that this leads to overcrowding, a loss of green space, and a lower quality of life. Do you think the benefits of high-density housing in cities outweigh the drawbacks? Why or why not?

Student response 1: Yes, I believe the benefits are greater. High-density housing allows more people to live closer to their jobs, which reduces traffic congestion and pollution from long commutes. Furthermore, it can make cities more vibrant and economically efficient by concentrating services and amenities in a smaller area.

Student response 2: I think the drawbacks are too significant. While it may solve one problem, high-density living often creates others, like increased noise, lack of privacy, and insufficient parks for residents. People need access to open, green spaces for their mental and physical well-being, which dense urban planning often ignores.
