Write for an Academic Discussion Test #107
Write for an Academic Discussion
A professor has posted a question about a topic and students have responded with their thoughts and ideas. Make a contribution to the discussion.
You will have 10 minutes to write.
Your professor is teaching a class on business and health.
In your response, you should do the following.
- • Express and support your opinion.
- • Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.
Professor’s question:
Let's talk about the concept of the four-day work week. Proponents argue that it improves employee well-being, reduces stress, and can even boost productivity by giving workers more time to rest. On the other hand, critics worry it could be impractical for certain industries and might lead to longer, more stressful workdays. In your opinion, should more companies adopt a four-day work week? Why or why not?
Student response 1:
Yes, I strongly support the idea of a four-day work week. It gives employees more time for their personal lives and rest, which can significantly reduce burnout. As a result, workers are often happier and even more focused and productive during their four days on the job because they are well-rested.
Student response 2:
I think it's a complicated issue. While it sounds nice, this model would not work for every industry. For instance, hospitals and retail stores need to be available to the public more than four days a week. However, even in office jobs, cramming five days of work into four could lead to longer, more stressful workdays.
