Professor’s question:

In many courses, we use a mix of individual assignments and group projects. Group work is often praised for its ability to teach collaboration and communication skills, which are valued in the workplace. On the other hand, individual assignments allow students to work at their own pace and take full responsibility for their learning. Which format do you believe is more beneficial for a student's overall education? Why?

Student response 1:

I strongly prefer individual assignments because your grade is a direct reflection of your own effort and understanding. Sometimes in group projects, one or two people do most of the work. As a result, individual work is a fairer and more accurate measure of what a student has actually learned.

Student response 2:

Group projects are more valuable in the long run. They teach us how to cooperate, compromise, and communicate with different people, which are essential skills for any future career. Also, working with others can lead to more creative ideas than working alone, even though it can sometimes be challenging.
