Professor’s question:

In many cultures, it is becoming more common for young adults to continue living with their parents after graduating from university, often to save money. Some argue this arrangement provides valuable financial and emotional support, while others believe it can delay the development of independence. Which viewpoint do you agree with more? Why?

Student response 1:

I think living at home after graduation is a smart financial decision. The cost of living is very high, so staying with parents allows graduates to save money for a future home or to pay off student loans faster. Also, it can be a period of strong family support, which is important.

Student response 2:

While saving money is a benefit, I believe it's more important for young adults to move out and become independent. Living on your own teaches crucial life skills like budgeting, cooking, and problem-solving. Because they have to manage these responsibilities, they mature more quickly than those who stay home.
