Professor's question: Many universities require first-year students to live in on-campus dormitories. The goal is to help new students build a community, make friends, and adapt to university life. However, some argue that this requirement is too expensive and limits students' freedom and independence. Should universities make living on campus mandatory for the first year? Why or why not?

Student response 1: I support the mandatory on-campus housing policy. Living in dorms makes it easier for new students to feel like part of the campus community and access resources like the library or tutoring centers. In addition, it provides a structured environment that helps them transition from living at home.

Student response 2: I disagree with this requirement because it can create a significant financial burden. Off-campus housing is often cheaper, and students should have the freedom to choose what they can afford. Besides, learning to manage an apartment and commute teaches valuable real-world responsibility that dorm life doesn't offer.
