D) It is a form of thermal radiation.
Professor: Good afternoon. Today we're going to dive into a fascinating biological phenomenon: bioluminescence. This is the production and emission of light by a living organism. It's a form of chemiluminescence. Unlike a lightbulb, which produces a lot of heat, bioluminescence is 'cold light,' meaning it generates very little thermal radiation. We see it most commonly in marine organisms, but also in some fungi and insects, like fireflies. We'll be exploring its chemical mechanisms and its evolutionary advantages.
